How did you get started using Canva, and what inspired you to start creating with it?

I switched from Photoshop to Canva to create my social media graphics first, then I taught others how to use Canva and how to make their own designs. As I have a master’s in art, I was always designing and created visual projects.

Can you walk us through your design process? How do you approach a new project using Canva?

First I look for inspiration, eg designing trends, art exhibitions, images, movies, etc. I also create my own assets like photos and graphic elements. Then I decide on the template style and category. And then I make a design and often evaluate one idea into another, and another, etc. I like to put away my designs and come back later to make some changes.

How do you keep up with the latest design trends and incorporate them into your work with Canva?

I love to look for new trends and inspirations. My main sources are the internet and design portals, but also art design books, exhibitions, social media, and movies. Everything that is around me could be a great inspiration and idea for my next projects.

What do you consider to be your strengths as a Canva Creator, and how do you leverage those strengths in your work?

I try to incorporate my own assets in my templates, so they are unique and specific to my style and aesthetic. I like taking photos and drawing on my iPad to create original graphic elements. I also looked at my previous designs and tried to figure out what is working and what isn’t. This is a great recommendation for me on what should I create more.

What are your favourite types of templates to design for Canva?

Social media templates for Facebook, Instagram posts and stories, document templates, logo templates, calendars, and planners.
