When did you start using Canva?
It was Wednesday, January 28, 2015 when Canva entered my life. Little did I know how deeply in love I would fall with this breath-taking platform. Soon I would begin writing sonnets to declare my love.
How did you get started using Canva, and what inspired you to start creating with it?
I started using Canva as a way to make it easier for clients to make changes to designs. I was working with a Podcast Agency that regularly needed to swap out titles and guest names. So I started creating Canva templates that they could make changes to, and the rest is history.
Can you walk us through your design process? How do you approach a new project using Canva?
For most projects, I start with inspiration. Sometimes I have a theme or an idea. Or sometimes it’s just a simple color palette. I begin researching and putting together a mood board that includes things like layouts, photos, fonts, color palettes, textures, elements/illustrations, etc.
How do you keep up with the latest design trends and incorporate them into your work with Canva?
I browse my favorite spots online. Probably the same list as most designers (behance, dribbble, fontsinuse, etc.) But I don’t always jump on every trend because they can fade so fast. And I find that when it comes to branding, you don’t really want to build your entire brand on a trend that will be outdated next year. But seasonal trends are fun (summer, Christmas, etc.) and it’s a good opportunity for me to play with trends during that time.
What do you consider to be your strengths as a Canva Creator, and how do you leverage those strengths in your work?
I’m never great at answering a question about my strengths. But I like things that are clean and creative. I’ve really enjoyed pushing Canva’s video editor and seeing how I can create something in minutes that would have taken me hours in other motion graphics software.
What are your favourite types of templates to design for Canva?
My favorite types of templates to design for Canva are probably Instagram Posts, Videos, and Logos. I know that world pretty well so it’s fun to play on those playgrounds.
