Pinned folders and apps in Canva’s design editor can be really helpful—but if you’re not keeping an eye on them, they can also turn into unnecessary clutter.
Whenever you open a custom folder while working in Canva’s design editor, Canva automatically adds it to the left-hand object panel in your editor. It’s designed to give you quick access to the folders you’re currently using, without having to go digging for them each time.
For example, if I’m working on a batch of content and I’m constantly pulling images from a particular subfolder in my styled stock photos, having that folder pinned is super convenient. It saves clicks and helps me stay focused on the task at hand.
But Canva doesn’t automatically remove these folders when you’re done using them, which makes sense, because how would they know that you’re done. Unless you manually remove them, they’ll just stay put in the left-hand panel, and over time, that can make your editor feel more cluttered.
So it’s a good habit to clear them out every so often, when you’re not using those folders regularly anymore.
To remove a pinned folder or app, just hover over its name in the left-hand toolbar and you’ll see a small “X” appear. If you don’t see the X when you hover over the pinned item, you may need it click it first to select it.
Click that X, and it’ll be removed from the sidebar. It’s not deleting the folder, it’s just removing the shortcut so things stay tidy.
And if you ever want it back, just open the folder again from your Projects area or re-open the App, and Canva will re-pin it automatically.
Keeping your open folders list under control is a small thing, but it really does help make your Canva design workspace feel calmer and more manageable.
