Canva’s Asset Sync app makes it possible to convert a single page of your design into an image and save it directly to your Projects, without downloading it to your computer first. In this tutorial, you’ll learn how Asset Sync works, how it differs from the standard download option, and when it’s the most efficient choice for keeping your workflow clean and organized.

I’ll be the first to say that I don’t use a lot of the apps inside Canva, even though there are so many of them available now. Some are great, some… not quite as helpful. But every so often, one comes along that fills a very specific gap and genuinely makes Canva life easier, especially when it aligns with organization and time-saving workflows.
The original “Design to Image” app was one of those. Lately, I’ve had a lot of people ask where it went, and you’re not imagining things. It didn’t disappear; it appears the developer simply re-released it under a new name: Asset Sync.
Since the name and file behaviour have changed slightly, an updated walkthrough felt worthwhile.

What Asset Sync Does (and Why It Matters)

Asset Sync lets you convert a single page of a design into an image and save it directly into your Canva Projects. Without this, the typical workflow is to download the design to your computer, then upload that same file back into Canva so you can use it inside another project. It’s not difficult, but it’s repetitive, and those small repetitive steps add up.
With Asset Sync, you can skip the download-and-upload cycle completely. You export the page, it appears in your Projects automatically, and you can pull it into your new design right away.

How to Use the Asset Sync App

To get started, open the Asset Sync app from your Apps panel inside the editor. You’ll see one clear option waiting for you.
Canva will also give you a reminder that the app only exports a single page at a time, so if you need to export multiple pages as individual images, the regular download settings are still the better choice.
Once the settings panel opens, you’ll see the same controls you normally get when downloading a design. You can choose between PNG or JPG, and if you’re a Canva Pro user, you can increase the export size up to three-point-one-two-five times the original. This is especially helpful when you want a high-resolution version of a design saved straight into your Projects without touching your computer’s downloads folder.

If you choose PNG, you can also limit the file size, compress the file, or export with a transparent background. If you choose JPG, you’ll be able to adjust the quality slider. Everything here behaves exactly the same as it does in the standard download menu.

Next, select the page you want to export. Since Asset Sync only exports one page at a time, simply choose the page you need and click Export. Instead of appearing in your Uploads tab like the old version used to, your exported file will now show up in your main Projects area. You can view it through the Projects panel inside the editor, and if it doesn’t appear right away, a quick refresh usually does the trick. You can also head to the Projects section on your Canva homepage to see it there.

Once it’s visible in Projects, this is the perfect moment to move the image into the appropriate folder system if you plan to use it again in the future. Keeping these images filed right away helps avoid clutter and makes them much easier to find later on.

Why This App Is Worth Using

Asset Sync isn’t a flashy app, but it quietly solves a problem many Canva users run into daily. By skipping the extra computer download and re-upload step, it keeps your workflow leaner and your downloads folder cleaner. It’s one of those small improvements that doesn’t seem like much until you’ve used it a few times and realize how much faster your process feels.
