You may have recently received an email from Canva titled “Important Update: Upcoming changes to your design sharing links.”

And yes, this is a legitimate email from Canva and there *is* something that you will need to do in your own Canva settings in order to keep all of your existing design share links accessible.

As of July 31, 2024, Canva is going to begin removing existing View Only, Template, and Website share links and anyone using these old links won’t be able to access your designs.

This may in particular impact those of you who create and share templates, and I fall into that category as well with all of the template bundles that I have available on my site.

The reason Canva is making these changes is to improve how designs are shared and to enhance security, but it does also mean that you need to take a couple of steps to ensure you preserve the existing share links of any existing designs you want updated to the new format.

I don’t want you to get nervous that there’s going to be some big undertaking here because it’s not; the good news is that it is quite simple and quick to make the necessary changes.

Step #1 is to Check Your Designs

You can see which of your designs are affected on the Share Links Update page of your Canva account settings at Canva.com/settings/share-links-update

You’ll see this page called “Your designs need attention” and you’re going to want to look for whatever designs appear in this area called “Keeping share links accessible.”

If I don’t select all of these designs and ask Canva to not adjust the share links, then I would have to go back and create new share links for every single design. And I don’t want to do that.

Step #2 is to Update Your Links

You’re going to just select your designs to update the share links by checking off the designs you want to preserve so they remain accessible.

I would suggest clicking on “show more” at the bottom here until you have all of your designs showing.

Now that I have all of those displayed, I’m going to scroll back to the top of this page and I’ll check off the very top checkbox so that it selects *all* of the designs at once, and you’ll see that I have 151 of them selected here.

I’ll click on “keep 151 designs accessible,” and when it’s done updating, it will show me a notification that it has successfully updated those designs.

At this point, the list of designs to keep accessible will be empty and you’re done!

Please note that if you don’t update your share links by July 31st, 2024, the affected links will no longer work and the designs will become private.

However, you’ll still have access to all your designs and can create new share links anytime.
